As we shared last month, the CFE Showcase on Teaching returns this spring and we are so excited! We hope you’ll join us March 20-21 to hear how our UNC instructors are using innovative teaching practices in their courses to connect with their students. The Showcase kicks off virtually over Zoom on Thursday and will be followed by a full in-person event on Friday at the Student Union. There will be breakfast, lunch, a keynote address, remarks from the Provost, a prize raffle, and a full schedule of instructor presentations.

The Showcase keynote speaker has been announced! Dr. Kevin Gannon, author of Radical Hope: A Teaching Manifesto and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence and Professor of History at Queens University of Charlotte, will be delivering the keynote address at the Showcase in March.

(Re)Connecting with Students

Kevin Gannon profileDr. Gannon will deliver an in-person, interactive keynote address titled “(Re)Connecting with Students” on Friday, March 21. The address will invite attendees to consider strategies to cultivate and sustain motivation–both for ourselves and our students. We’ll examine the barriers to teaching and learning we’ve encountered after “pandemic pedagogy,” and critically reflect on how and why they exist–as well as how we might surmount them. In a guided discussion and reflection, we’ll examine the foundations of a pedagogy rooted in hope and discern what that looks like for our own contexts. Finally, we’ll have the opportunity to frame commitments that also honor our need for sustainability and solidarity. Dr. Gannon will also participate in sessions throughout the day on March 21.

Register for the Showcase now to save your spot. We hope to see you there!
