As this emerging technology continues to be developed and used by faculty, students, and staff in the larger higher education community, instructors can find University support materials and learning opportunities to assist in using generative AI in their teaching.

CFE Support for Teaching with Generative AI

The Center for Faculty Excellence opens in new window is offering two different workshops to either help instructors new to using generative AI or those who have already been using it in their personal or professional activities. Both workshops will be offered twice and virtually over Zoom. Be sure to register when you wish to attend.

Getting Started with ChatGPT opens in new window: Basic introduction to how the tool works and how you might use it in your teaching.

Applications for Teaching, Learning, and Research opens in new window: Follow-up workshop that dives deeper into writing more complex prompts and exploring creative ways faculty are putting generative AI to work.

Generative AI Training Modules

Want to explore on your own? Go through this in-depth 5-module training series for faculty opens in new window for guidance on teaching with generative AI. The module series includes these topics:

  • Course Introduction: An introduction to the course from Provost Chris Clemens.
  • Module 1, Generative AI: Provides an overview of generative AI and the AI Ecosystem.
  • Module 2, The Art and Science of Prompting AI: Explains a 3-step approach to prompting AI followed by examples for teaching, scholarship, and productivity.
  • Module 3, Teaching with AI: Describes ways to conceptualize AI for instructional purposes and designing assessments along with examples to use it for teaching and learning.
  • Module 4, Ensuring Academic Integrity with AI: Puts forward guidance that instructors, students, and researchers can document their use of generative AI, respective to their contexts and work.
  • Module 5, Launching Your AI Trajectory: Offers a tool that faculty can use to self-assess and identify their strengths and areas for improvement in using generative AI.
